In Satyug, there lived a powerful demon named Mura. He defeated most of the Gods and instilled terror in Devloka. All the Gods went to Lord Shiva for help who then asked them to take help from Lord Vishnu.
Lord Vishnu agreed to help and so the war between Lord Vishnu and Mura begin. The war continued for hundreds of years.
After the long war, Lord Vishnu got tired and went to a cave named Hemavati in Bhadrikashram for rest. As Lord Vishnu was in his Yog Nidra, Mura sought the chance and attacked him. As he raised his weapon, a Goddess appeared from Lord Vishnu and killed Mura.
When Vishnu woke up to see dead Mura, He asked the Goddess about her and how she killed Mura so easily. Ekadashi then introduced herself as one of the Daasis’ (Eka-Dashi), the feminine power that resided lovingly within Vishnu.
There Goddess Ekadashi received the boon that her Emergence Day will be celebrated. And the tithi will be of utmost value to worship Lord Vishnu and receive His blessings.
